The Buck Stops Here
These are challenging times for many Americans. The present recession and the forthcoming stimulus package will offer some relief, but our country has lost a lot of ground on many fronts. Before our nation can put the economy back on track, many changes will need to take place. From lobbyists that have bought our politician's votes, huge tax incentives for large corporations to golden parachutes for C.E.O.s and a system of health care that excludes a large majority of our country's population, so much of what constitutes the way the United States does business is wrong. Whether our institutions are fundamentally sound or corrupt has become a primary focus. As we begin this new year, "accountability" and "transparency" have become buzz words. Don't wonder why.
While I cannot speak for all Americans, I hold a personal belief that an individual's integrity accounts for the direction of their actions. Greed on the part of many has damaged the fabric of exactly what makes this country great.
The words "..and justice for all" aren't just the words to our Pledge of Allegiance, they are supposed to be our creed. As Americans, we have the ability to change the course of our country's history. If we take a serious approach to dealing with the issues and inequities that have placed us in these dire financial straits, there is strong hope for our future. If we do not, the worst is yet to come.
Because I am a business owner, I feel a certain amount of responsibility where helping my community get back on its feet is concerned. I'm willing to make changes that address the present economic conditions. What about you ?
I realize that I am only one individual. I can only do so much, but that fact does not diminish the value my example can set for others. I am committed to excellence in my life, business and personal affairs. What about you ?
I am all about the greater good, not business as usual and, yes, 'the buck stops here'.
