Caring for Your Eyeglasses
Eyeglasses come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Proper care will extend their life, as well as assure their continued functionality. Here are a few useful tips to help care for your eyeglasses and keep them in tip-top shape:
- ALWAYS store your eyeglasses in a case, preferably a hard one, when they are not on your face. We often tell children this: "If they are not on your face, then they should be in the case!"
- Clean your lenses, frames, and nosepads every day with a mild dish soap and water and then dry thoroughly. You can use an old toothbrush to clean around the nosepads, especially if you see any green. Oils and residues from your skin and hair can corrode the lens coatings and frame. Stainless steel frames and titanium frame materials are most resistant to corrosion, and as an added benefit are light-weight.
- NEVER use Windex or ammonia-based products to clean your lenses as they can strip coatings and haze up the lenses. Simple soap and water or diluted isopropyl alcohol work best.
- NEVER use paper products, like paper towels or tissue, to clean your lenses. Fibers in the products can cause scratching on your lenses. Using soft cotton (like an old, clean T-shirt) or a lens cloth is best!
- Do not attempt repairs or adjustments yourself. At Full Spectrum Family Vision Care, most repairs, including screw and nosepad replacements, are complimentary. The repair kits in the store have many size screws and most times do not have the proper size you need. PLUS, you may not be able to see to fix your eyeglasses with them off.
- NEVER use super-glue on any part of your frame. If it gets on your lenses, they are permanently damaged.
