FSL Baseball Heats Up
If it's been a few years since you spent an afternoon at the baseball field, you're not alone. A lot of fans of southwest Florida's own Fort Myers Miracle are too busy struggling with the present economy to even drop in on Hammond Stadium for several innings of baseball. The truth is that when we do return to the ball park, we're not likely to find things quite as we remember.
The modern day Florida Sports League is experiencing a sort of resurgence. It has grown by several teams in recent years. Divided into the North and South divisions, The twelve member teams play a 140 game schedule with 70 games at home and 70 games on the road. Four teams participate in the play-offs. Winners of both halves within each Division play each other in a best of three game series for the Division Championships. The Division Champions advance to the League Championship Series.
The Fort Myers Miracle has always provided southwest Floridians with great entertainment. This year the FSL has a new team with the Charlotte Stone Crabs and their new home is the Charlotte Sports Park.
As the team taking on the Fort Myers Miracle last week, they managed to win one game to prevent a shutout series. From here they're off to take on the St. Lucie Mets. Meanwhile, our Miracle is busy working on earning their namesake's first League Championship, a feat they've yet to achieve. Maybe this is the year ?
Baseball in our community is big business. The FSL's association with MLB franchises is well-known. Now, another secret is out of the bag. FSL baseball is not just great fun, but as affordable entertainment goes, it's a best value !
