Moving Sucks !
Almost everyone has experienced it. As it, likely, takes a close third place to life's two other inevitable happenings, most people have been through it..some more than others. When facing the reality of a necessary move, certain aspects of relocating cannot be avoided. Combining the costs ( both physical and monetary ) and the inevitable stress associated with the process, I have decided that moving sucks !When facing a move, I've noticed that there is never a time that seems convenient. Sure, I'll admit that a transition is often for the betterment of self or family, but it doesn't negate the burden of all that a move entails.
First of all, the locating of a new house or apartment is a pretty tall task in itself. At very least, it is often a pretty large commitment of time. Once you've found the right place, the rest is not all downhill. Next begins the process of arranging all of the logistical aspects.
When and how you'll move are also difficult considerations. If you live alone and don't have a wealth of furniture and other stuff, it can be a move that you attempt without hiring others. You can rent or borrow a truck and move things yourself. It's strenuous and tiring, but that is the most affordable route.
But let's not overlook the obvious need for packing ! You'll need boxes for that...and probably more than you'll initially buy. Oh yeah, and you've got to wrap the stuff that can easily break. Whether you use newspaper or bubble wrap, you'd better pick up some of that, as well.
Once you've secured the new place and the packing is done, now comes the real fun of it all. First, you need to go fill out a forwarding order at the post office if you want to continue to receive your mail. Next, you've got to have your utilities transferred, you had better get busy on the phone. Even transferring power, phone and cable ( if you have it ) isn't too strenuous, but let's not forget that you're likely going to be facing an additional fee on your next bills. Why do you have to pay to transfer your already existent services ? The answer is, quite simply, because they can tell you that it is a standard charge !
If everything I've put forth so far doesn't get you excited, then the fact that you'll be in a state of transition for a few days just might ! I have yet to meet the person that enjoys living out of a box or suitcase. With near certainty, you won't be able to find some of your things for a while..so get used to that, too !
Finally, if you haven't strategically timed your move to coincide with a weekend or holiday, you are probably going to have to use some of that precious vacation or sick time you've amassed at work.
Moving is certainly no holiday and darn surely no vacation ! Once your move is complete, you're going to be tired and it won't be unusual if you feel that you need a vacation. Oh, well..maybe next year ?
