You'll Need A Permit For That
As the Cape Coral City Council continues to wrestle with the fiscal constraints of a budget adversely affected by the present economy, many of our city's departments will undergo changes. Many of these changes will, hopefully, streamline operations at city hall.Because the city will, of course, continue to grow, the building department will need to continue to function, but in the process of doing so, they will lose one staff member from their current employee roster.
As of January 5th, prospective applicants for permits can use a newly provided computer terminal to provide basic information and request an appointment. Building department officials have said that the change is designed to cut down on the time people spend waiting at city hall.
Additional changes in the online permitting application process are also forthcoming. Unfortunately, the city's software is inadequate to handle more than just very basic permitting tasks. According to the city, the newer software will be available closer to the end of 2009.
Having issued more than 15,000 permits during the last fiscal year, the city is hopeful that the planned changes will be a significant improvement.
