Preparing for the Worst- Part II
If the summer hurricane season should produce a tropical storm that threatens southwest Florida's coastal communities, you'll want to assure your family's piece of mind during that time. Having a Hurricane Supply Kit is a necessity where preparations are concerned.
There are certain items everyone needs to have regardless of where you ride out a hurricane. A disaster supply kit assures you'll stay as safe as possible in your home or if the need to evacuate should arise.
The Typical Hurricane Supply Kit must contain;
- Water - at least 1 gallon daily per person for 3 to 7 days
- Food - at least enough for 3 to 7 days
— non-perishable packaged or canned food / juices
— foods for infants or the elderly
— snack foods
— non-electric can opener
— cooking tools / fuel
— paper plates / plastic utensils
- Flashlight / Batteries
- Blankets, pillows, etcetera
- Clothing - seasonal / rain gear/ sturdy shoes
- First Aid Kit / Medicines / Prescription Drugs
- Special Items - for babies and the elderly
- Toiletries / Hygiene items / Moisture wipes
- Telephones - Fully charged cell phone Telephones - with extra battery
- Cash (with some small bills) and Credit Cards
- Keys
- Important documents - in a waterproof container or zip-loc style baggie.
- Tools
Filling your vehicle with gasoline prior to any storm is a good practice as it will greatly expedite a necessary evacuation.
