Proactive, Reactive, or Inactive ?

Greatest CapeAs a boy growing up in Florida, my parents used to tell me that there were three basic kinds of people. They said there were those who made things happen, as well as those who watched things happen and finally there were the people who wondered what happened. After being told this, they would ask me what kind of person I was. I decided very early in my childhood that I wanted to make things happen, and have always tried to do just that.

If you ever thought about these three groups, then, likely, you would have to see yourself as most fitting one category versus another. But have you ever thought about which kind of person you really want to be ?

While life is certainly not as simple as being one type of person or another, having a basic and underlying approach to your everyday life can greatly influence what will and does happen to you.

Because I chose to be someone who would make things happen, I see myself as a proactive person. Maybe it's more fair to say that I try to create my own reality. Given my approach, I am always pleased when I am able to accomplish the goals I set for myself. It is also true that I can best relate to others who share that approach.

When I see people that complain about things that have happened to them, I have a hard time relating. This is especially true if it appears that those events were not entirely by chance or, that by some actions of their own, these persons have, possibly, brought the events upon themselves. I do tend to see those people as being reactive in their nature.

I think that most people know others that they might think of as being "clueless". I certainly know people like that. They are persons who simply don't seem tuned in to the world in which they live. They daydream a lot and generally don't seem to feel as though they are a part of whatever is going on around them. Most persons I know like this rarely accomplish anything. They strike me as being inactive because the concept of getting something done doesn't seem to compel them to act.

As a business owner, I have a great many responsibilities. Most of them require me to be very proactive, and I enjoy doing so. Because people own businesses, I have found that these same categories of personality types can also describe a person's approach to running their business. This would stand to reason.

Because Greatest Cape is a social network that is "all about Cape Coral", we welcome the opportunity to meet with like-minded persons in our community who, where their own businesses are concerned, are seeking to make things happen. Given our site's growth since we launched just ten months ago, that is something we seem to have a knack for doing.

So, if you own a local business and are wanting to get your business noticed, we invite you to contact us. We will be glad to share with you the techniques that have been working for us and help you to implement your own !

Now where have I heard that before?? Hmmm........ Yes its very hard to look at oneself with complete honesty, but when you do its really a mind blowing experience. Evaluating who you are and then deciding whom you want to be isn't easy but be honest and give it a whirl! You'd be amazed what you, one little person, can achieve when you figure out who you want to be and are focused on that goal!
