I was born in the summertime. Perhaps it is because of this fact that I most enjoy this season. The summertime in south Florida is not for the faint of heart. The heat index can be nearly unbearable some days. Those of us who are full-time residents here know why the snowbirds leave. They can't stand the heat. They seek the optimal temperature for year-round comfort. It must be nice, but I wouldn't know.

I don't think snowbirds can rival my appreciation of southwest Florida's climate. I mean, unless you've weathered the late spring wildfires and the summertime hurricane season here, you couldn't know just how fine a cool spring downpour or a hot summer night can truly be.

In all fairness to those whose occasional visitations bolster our socio-economic well-being, we're appreciative of your involvement, even if we sometimes are annoyed by your presence. After all, this is our home year-round.

Greatest Cape provides a way for the absent snowbirds to stay "in touch" with our area. We're proud of that, but we weren't built solely for that purpose. Our resources are most geared toward our full-time residents, as they are the social fabric of the southwest Florida community. As they're here full-time..so are we !

As word of our existence has slowly begun to reach our residents, their words of support have also started to reach us. For this, we are most grateful. While the resources to be found at Greatest Cape are not a secret, they aren't advertised nationally for a reason. Our advertisers are either Cape Coral based, or, at least, strongly focused on southwest Florida. They are the businesses whose existence thrives upon local patronage.

One of our members left a comment on a story we published about homestead exemption. "Thank you for the information about the Florida homestead exemption. As I am not yet a homeowner, but am looking to buy, I found this information very helpful...Thank you and keep up the good work ! "

Another recent member commented "..you have included on your site stories and thoughts that are not just run of the mill blah, blah, blah, news, but more philosophical pondering in areas the majority just don't take time to or allow themselves to entertain. And, of course, having a quick rundown of events is great too !

Another member wrote us this comment. "I think this is a great website of Cape Coral. It will help newcomers and visitors."

While not all of our feedback has been positive, the vast majority has been quite supportive. We are always seeking to improve what we have to offer and we appreciate our members sharing their ideas, comments( positive and otherwise) and nominations for those businesses they think are Cape Coral's Greatest, too.

To my southwest Florida family, Thank You for your involvement ! Just for the record, we're genuinely glad you're here...most especially now !
