What Spring Will Bring

Paradise PonderingsIt seems like I just finished writing my thank you notes from Christmas. Now I'm looking down the barrel of Spring. What about that stuff I was going to do in January that got put off until February? It seems like a lot of southwest Floridians look forward to the springtime. But just why is that? Being in my second decade here, I got more than a few suspicions.

Southwest Florida is in the middle of tourist season. But when the last winter residents and final Spring breakers depart, southwest Florida will face navigating the doldrums. Fortunately, the changing season signals more than a financial slow down.

Are you ready for Spring? I most certainly am. The present economic climate and record-setting unemployment rates aside, we as southwest Floridians can anticipate a return to some degree of normalcy where our area is concerned. Okay, maybe I should better explain my logic.

The lack of persons from out of state reading maps while meandering down Colonial Boulevard at 30mph is just one such treat coming our way ! Another still is the distinct possibility of being able to get a seat at the local bistro style eatery and still return home before midnight. I know that most of my fellow residents will agree that alone warrants a smile of satisfaction.

Accordingly, gas prices should fall for the first half of the summer with extra low demand, prior to late summer vacationers driving them back up again. This could actually translate into a small 'jingle' in the pocket region!

Parking at the beach on Sunday will, once again, not be an hour long debacle playing 'musical spaces'. I personally believe that this alone qualifies as "way cool".

Finally, for those of us who genuinely love Florida, the intense heat and mind-numbing humidity will slowly creep back into our everyday lives, as we head back into our local pools and water parks to get the relief we're going to crave....awesome !

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get a little excited.
