Park of the Month - Cape Coral Arts Studio
Since 1977, people of all ages have been participating in the many programs that September's Park of the Month offers. Classes in the fine arts and fine crafts are offered year-round, art camps are presented in the summer for children ages 7 to 12, special events and workshops are held throughout the year, and exhibitions featuring area artists are shown monthly in their Fine Arts Gallery.Located in Rubicond Park in south Cape Coral is one of the Parks and Recreation Department’s earliest facilities. Functioning as a Mecca of inspiration for those who look to the visual arts for their enjoyment, enrichment, and creative expression, the Cape Coral Arts Studio is September's Park of the Month.
The Arts Studio’s Supply Store provides the community with a large inventory of fine art supplies that meets the needs of its students as well as the professional artist and weekend crafter. The store is conveniently open to the public Monday through Saturday.
The Gift Shop offers a wonderful selection of hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind items created by the Arts Studio’s talented students and instructors. Reasonably priced unique items can be found in a variety of mediums – glass, jewelry, pottery, paintings, and photography.
Currently, the Arts Studio is presenting one of its most popular exhibitions – the 16th Annual Aquarium ! The multi-media exhibit with work created by area artists depicts life beneath the waves, through either realism or imaginative interpretations. Special lighting and sound effects enhance the ambiance, turning the gallery into an underwater wonderland. This unique “aquatic” installation can be enjoyed through September 25th.
An artist’s reception is planned for Friday, September 12th from 5:00-7:00PM and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00AM – 4:30PM.
Fall classes begin the week of September 23rd. The 7-week schedule has a variety of fine art and fine craft classes for adults, teens and youth, in day and evening sessions, Monday through Saturday.
Select from offerings in Painting, Pottery, Glass, and Jewelry, as well as Drawing, Stone Sculpture and other media. Many classes are available from the beginner to intermediate/advanced levels. Register on-line at the City of Cape Coral's Parks and Recreation website where class descriptions, material lists, and fees can be found..
New classes on the schedule include Intermediate/Advanced Wheel Throwing and daytime Enameling for adults (age 16 plus). Two printmaking classes have been added for the young artists to experience this creative art form – Fun Prints (ages 7 – 10), and Printed Images (ages 11 – 15). The classes have been designed for students to explore a variety of printmaking techniques in a fun and productive environment.
The next bead show, held monthly, will be on Saturday, September 20th, from 9:00AM – 4:00PM, sponsored by the Arts Studio and the Stone Age Emporium. Choose from a wide selection of beading supplies including over 200 varieties of gemstones and glass beads including Czech, Chinese and lamp work; jewelry findings, sterling silver and gold filled findings, pendants, tools and more! Admission is free and credit cards are accepted.
