The Shell Game
Most people will admit that the Presidential Primary elections have been very exciting, especially those of the Democratic Party. In contrast to the Republicans, the Democrats have, at least, had two talented and articulate candidates vying for the nomination. Most of the major media have predicted that Barrack Obama will get the nomination. As to the certainty of that, nothing is carved in stone. While he looks to be the proverbial "shoe-in" where delegates are concerned, Hillary Clinton isn't ready to throw in the towel just yet.Throughout the Primary process, one thing has become abundantly clear, the people of this country are ready for real change and whoever gets the Democratic Party nomination will, quite likely, become the next President. Given that, why should Americans believe that any real, significant changes will actually take place ?
Any U.S. President is largely a figurehead. They rely upon the congress to bring forth legislation that can affect positive change for our country. Given the structure of the political machinery that is Washington D.C., real change will require a great deal of unprecedented bi-partisan cooperation in order to move our country out of the present recession.
Both party's candidates have certainly promised that they will deliver that change, but a lot of campaign rhetoric and promises are standard fare during an election year. As much corruption and political opportunism as Americans have seen during the the current administration's presidency, we have every reason to be in disbelief.
The speech writers and strategists that spearhead the respective candidates campaigns make their candidate's lofty promises seem suspect. The ultimate goal in an election is to put in office the person who genuinely seems believable in their commitment. Finding the individual whose integrity and character best suits the needs of our country's leadership is the real job of voters. So few presidents in recent history have proven themselves to be effective leaders.
Whatever your particular party affiliation ( I have none ), be certain that you vote your conscience in November..and may the best man ( or woman ) win !
