Lost your Best Friend ?
According to Lee County Animal Services, in 2006, there were more than 16,000 animals that became temporary residents at the shelter. On average, they take in 1,400 animals each month. In the event that you have lost your pet, you can check out the animals they have recovered. Conversely, if you have found a pet, they can provide you assistance as well.Lee County Animals Services has a Lost Pets Search function that lists the animals they have recovered by breed or the mix of breeds that they believe the animal best represents. They remind you that it may be different than the breed that you know the animal to be. It is for this very reason that suggest in-person, visual identification as the surest means of identifying your pet.
Lee County also reminds residents that if you register your lost pet online that those registrations are NOT forwarded. Hence, you must fill out a missing pet report in person. Lost pets can only be held for five days due to space considerations. So, whatever other steps you may take, do not delay looking for your pet !
Remember, If your pet is wearing a Lee County license or has a Microchip ID, Animal Services will attempt to contact you. The cost to redeem your dog, or cat will depend on whether it is habitually at large, is vaccinated for rabies, and has a currently Lee County license. They will require proof of ownership and personal identification. Probably the single most important fact to remember is that your chances of finding a missing pet are best when you conduct a thorough search as soon as possible.
