Grow with the Flow

Cape Coral NewsCape Coral residents can expect some relief from the unusual amounts of traffic they face as they approach the Cape Coral bridge during their daily commutes. The flow of traffic for residents who travel eastbound on Cape Coral Parkway, as well as those who proceed south on Del Prado will get some much needed attention.

At a July 10th meeting of the Community Redevelopment Agency, and working with Lee County's Department of Transportation, Cape Coral's Transportation Division, devised plans to eliminate parking lanes along Cape Coral Parkway, while making that road six lanes and increasing the number of turning lanes from two to three on Del Prado Boulevard before the intersection with Cape Coral Parkway.

The project became a joint project for the Cape and Lee County because a portion of Del Prado Boulevard remains a county road, As a result, a portion of the necessary funding for the project will come from the county. As part of the plan, the CRA also supported the renovation and relocation of the Veteran's War Memorial to a section of Bernie Braden Park at the foot of the Cape Coral bridge.

Upon completion, all parking along Cape Coral Parkway will have been eliminated, a portion of that road west of Coronado Parkway, along to near the bridge entrance, would be expanded to three lanes. As well, the two left turn lanes off of Cape Coral Parkway onto Coronado Parkway would be reduced to a single one, the present two left turn lanes off of Del Prado Boulevard would be expanded to three.
