Temperatures Drop in Southwest Florida

If you happen to be a snowbird or part-time resident of southwest Florida who has just arrived for winter, you may be a little disappointed. Due to the advent of several recent cold fronts, temperatures in our area have been colder than usual and hurting our seasonal businesses, many of whom rely on our traditionally mild conditions.

Southwest Florida winters can be cold. It is also true that cold weather doesn't usually last longer than a day or two. As winter approaches the SWFL area, overnight temperatures can dip down into the 50's and, sometimes, even chillier inland away from the warm Gulf breezes.

This winter has not only brought numerous cold fronts already, those fronts have produced temperatures that were in the near freezing range overnight and not out of the 40s during the day. That's cold weather to any Floridian !

While winter is far from being over here, local residents are hopeful that the remaining cold fronts won't be as severe as the previous ones. Local farmers are still assessing the damage from the last overnight freeze. Both the citrus and tomato farmers of Lee, Charlotte and Collier counties were hit pretty hard.

While many snowbirds have expressed being a little disappointed, some other locals have said how nice the cooler weather is...at least for a while !
