19th Tour De Cape a Success
Both runners and bikers competed recently in the 19th Annual Tour De Cape. The weekend-long event provided local competitors with many challenges. Whether competing in the 5K Fun Run held Saturday, riding in one of the four legs of the bicycle trek, or just enjoying one of the rides for 'Family Fun Sunday', a good time was had by most everyone.
While the Tour De Cape has a lengthy history, competitors in this year's event started out from its new location at Cape Harbour. The event is sponsored by the City of Cape Coral's Parks and Recreation department.
According to organizers of the competition, this year's event had nearly 100 persons registered for the 5K or 3.1 mile run on Saturday. Accordingly, the various lengths of the bike ride had many entrants, as well. Riders could choose between two shorter treks of 15 and 30 miles, respectively. More experienced cyclists embarked on the significantly longer 66 or 100-mile journeys.
Despite very windy conditions on Sunday, many Cape Coral families took part in the 7-mile Family Fun Day rides around the Cape. According to Parks and Recreation officials, the event is designed to bring families together for outdoor activity.
With the continued interest and growth of the event's registration, next year promises to be even larger!
