Word of Mouth

Greatest CapeIt is often said that "the best don't advertise". But that is stated incorrectly. The real saying is that "the best don't have to advertise". Yet, they do. Really great brands are not only recognizable, they're familiar. The reason for this familiarity is that they can be found everywhere. They have networked their way to such a status. So, if you have a brand, learn how to establish it. It's simple to do, but it isn't all that easy. You have to take the necessary steps before "word of mouth" becomes all about you !

Networking has been vaunted to the point of being considered an art form. It requires getting your business brand into the public view. It also necessitates associating your business with like minded others. In order for the aspiring company to make an name, they need to establish their authority. Many businesses will say; "We're the best", but very few are willing to prove that.

If you have a small business, you, likely, seek out the most cost-effective advertising you can find. The reasons are two-fold. First, most small businesses have a shoestring budget. Second, because their advertising budget is small, the need to generate a strong return on your investment is paramount !

Here is where networking can really work to generate notice for the business. If we take, for example, a local business within our Business Directory, we can offer that business additional tools to bring attention to themselves. As we are a BLOG, our story's readers have the ability to comment on anything they read. Conversely, our article's authors can solicit comments regarding a particular topic upon which they have shared some expertise.

By doing so, they create a forum for discussion. The point is that our readers actually read the polls, forums and article comments, and often share their own input. We encourage it, invite it and have seen it generate quite a buzz. These comments get indexed as our site gets crawled by the search engines. Suddenly, these comments become findable and their authors become recognized for not simply their namesake, but also their authority.

While this is an overview of the process, it does require the knowledge that any press is good press. If your business is ever to become the talk of the town, it will only happen because of what you say, and where you say it. If you want to give people something to talk about, you will surely have to start the conversation !
